This is the story of how a seemingly small and (trust me) unremarkable breast has completely changed my life, my husband's life and our whole family.
In August of 2005, I discovered two little cysts in my left breast which I was assured meant absolutely nothing. But Lefty, as I have come to call her, was so diseased with cysts and abnormal cell growth that by April of 2008 a tumor joined the many cysts and I was diagnosed in May with both infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC--malignant, invasive cancer) as well as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS--a non-invasive cancer).
As it turns out, Lefty was a real pain in the backside, and we parted ways. (Righty too. Just to be sure.)
